Fashion week for youth takes place at Mount Mary

Fashion alumnae and faculty teach skills and offer career guidance at Fashion Academy

Mount Mary University’s Fashion Academy, a weeklong experience for students entering grades 8-12 who have a love of fashion and want to learn more about the industry, takes place June 19-23, 2023.

Students will experience fashion through hands-on activities with Mount Mary faculty and meet alumnae who work in the industry. The week culminates with a Friday afternoon fashion program showcasing their work.

“This program lets young enthusiasts learn insider know-how and discover the skills and digital tools needed for a career in fashion,” said Trish Kuehnl, director of the Academy.

Students may choose from an array of options that tie into fashion design and merchandise management, the two fashion degree programs offered at Mount Mary:

  • Merchandise management topics covered include fashion publishing and blogging; trend forecasting; photography; retail display design, model development and fashion show production.
  • Fashion design skills include sewing, surface design techniques, CAD design patternmaking, pattern alterations, clothing construction and upcycling.

All students will participate in a careers workshop, where guest speakers share their experiences in various careers within the fashion industry.

Male, female and non-binary students are welcome to participate in the Fashion Academy.
