Four exceptional alumnae to receive honors June 7

Mount Mary University and the Mount Mary Alumnae Association will honor four distinguished alumnae at the annual Awards Night celebration on June 7.

The 2018 Tower Award, given to alums with 15 years of graduation who demonstrate excellence and potential for future growth, is awarded to Cynthia C. Delgado Galvan '09. Early in her career, Galvan focused on teaching students in the college bilingual and migrant education programs. Today, she is a full-time tenured faculty member at Milwaukee Area Technical College and is currently an instructor of English and reading, teaching all college students English. Her role as an instructional chair provides support for faculty in her department. She also serves on the board of United Migrant Opportunity Services.

The Madonna Medal represents the highest honor bestowed upon Mount Mary alumnae who demonstrate a longstanding commitment to their profession or volunteerism. The 2018 Madonna Medal for Community Service is awarded to Mary A. Greisch-Monday '89 and Roberta Hankes Olshansky '63.

Greisch-Monday has a passion for improving the city of Port Washington. For over 20 years, she has served as the President and Chairman of the Board for Port Fish Day, an annual Port Washington celebration. She also worked as the Executive Director of the Port Washington Chamber of Commerce for 15 years. Today, she is the Director of the East Central District of Junior Achievement. She is a legacy alumna, meaning, her mother also attended Mount Mary.

Olshansky has a longstanding commitment to improving the community around her. Since 1977, she has been a member of the Women's Library Club of Glencoe. During her time as President in 2010, she co-founded North Shore Exchange, Glencoe's upscale consignment resale shop, which benefits families and children in need. She currently serves as a trustee of the Writers Theatre. She participated in its campaign to raise $34 million to build a new theater, designed by renowned architect Jeanne Gang.

The 2018 Madonna Medal for Professional Excellence is awarded to Janet M. Powell '60. Powell is committed to the field of family and consumer sciences and taught an award-winning program for many years in the Madison Metropolitan School District. For 35 years, she has been a member of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and its affiliate, the Wisconsin Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (WAFCS). Currently, she works as the Executive Director of WAFCS.
