Mount Mary University Honors Distinguished Alumnae

Four outstanding alumnae will be honored at Awards Night

MILWAUKEE, WI (July 30, 2015) - On October 9, 2015 Mount Mary University will honor this year's most distinguished alumnae at Awards Night hosted by the Alumnae Association. Held during our annual Homecoming on the Mount, this special event will take place at the Mount Mary University campus and will include a reception, dinner, and an awards presentation emceed by Marie O'Brien '08, Mount Mary University Board of Trustees Chair, President and CEO of Enterforce, Inc. and a 2012 Madonna Medal recipient.

Four outstanding alumnae were selected out of a pool of extremely accomplished women. The awardees were chosen based on their dedication to their profession and volunteerism, as well as their unique impact on the community. The bold women being honored truly epitomize the Four C's of Mount Mary University: Competence, Community, Compassion, and Commitment.

Madonna Medal: Professional Excellence
Julie Alexander '81 BA Behavioral Science
Julie Alexander has dedicated her life to changing the bureaucratic systems in order to improve the lives of others with disabilities. She currently serves as the IndependenceFIRST Lead Coordinator of the Independent Living Services Program.

Madonna Medal: Community Service
Mary Joan (MJ) Park '70 BA Education
Co-Founder and Co-Director of Little Friends for Peace (LFFP), MJ Park works tirelessly to develop training programs that teach positive self-esteem, effective communication, cooperation, and conflict resolution for children, parents, teachers and caregivers. Even when Park, her husband and six children were on the brink of poverty, her devotion to peace education has never wavered.

Madonna Medal: Special Recognition
S. Patricia Ann Obremski '63 BS Chemistry, Secondary Education, Physics
Patricia Ann Obremski, School Sister of Notre Dame, has demonstrated a rare passion and commitment to the scientific field of physics since her graduation from Mount Mary University in 1963. She passes on a balanced understanding of the relationship between God and science to her students, and enriches them beyond the areas of physics with her constant virtuosity and desire for knowledge.

Tower Award: Young Alumna (15 years or less)
Jennifer Montalvo (Treptow) 2008 BA Justice and Behavioral Science
Currently an attorney at the non-profit law firm, Centro Legal, Jennifer Montalvo works diligently to help low income residents transition into better lives away from poverty. Her devotion to the poor does not stop at Centro Legal, as she volunteers for the Marquette Legal Clinic. Montalvo spreads positivity, hope and kindness through her selfless mission to seek justice for people who are typically underserved.
