First Spring Commencement as Mount Mary University

Former Mount Mary President to Deliver Address and Receive Honorary Degree

profile_lorenz-ellen.jpgMILWAUKEE, WI (May 12, 2014) - Mount Mary will conduct its first spring commencement as a University on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bloechl Recreation Center located at 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee. Nearly 300 graduates will receive degrees and certificates from the institution, which is now 101 years old.

The University is also commencing its inaugural class of doctorate of art therapy graduates. Mount Mary was the first institution in the country to offer a professional doctorate in art therapy.

Sister Ellen Lorenz, SSND, Ed.D., will deliver the commencement keynote address and receive an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. Sister Ellen's service to Mount Mary spans more than four decades and includes eight years as president and nearly 30 years as a professor of education. She was also responsible for developing the essence of the University's core curriculum, which is still fundamental to academic requirements at Mount Mary today.

The awarding of degrees includes:

  • 145 undergraduate degrees representing 29 majors
  • 130 graduate degrees representing seven programs
  • 4 doctorate degrees
  • 15 post baccalaureate certificates representing ten areas.
