The Alumnae Office will light 300 luminaries at dusk on Friday as a gesture of appreciation to those who've generously "lit" the way for our December graduates. The luminaries will line the walk from the parking lot to the Arches and in front of Notre Dame Hall to welcome guests arriving for Baccalaureate Mass, Step-Singing and the Alumnae Reception.

MILWAUKEE (December 11, 2013) – Mount Mary University will conduct its mid-year commencement ceremonies on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the  Alumnae and North Dining Rooms located in Bergstrom Hall at 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee. More than 100 students will be awarded degrees, including 60 bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees; 18 bachelor of science in nursing joint degrees with Columbia College of Nursing; 16 graduate degrees; and 8 certificates.

Mary Ellen Kohn-Buday, Ph.D., associate professor of Foreign Languages/Spanish and World Languages Department chairperson, and recipient of the 2013 “Excellence in Teaching” award, will address the graduates.

Faculty will once again regale graduates with parodies during Step-Singing. In the spirit of the season the line-up includes "Deck the Halls (of Notre Dame Hall) and "Let 'em Go" sung to the tune of "Let it Snow." "You're Graduating in the Morning" (to the tune of "I'm Getting Married in the Morning") will conclude the faculty send-off. See faculty singing at last May's Commencement.

In addition to the formal commencement ceremony, a Baccalaureate Mass will be held on Friday, December 13th at 6:00 p.m. in Helfaer Hall. It will be followed by Step Singing, a Mount Mary tradition that began over 100 years ago. Graduating seniors will welcome family and friends, sing songs and read poetry. Faculty members will perform musical parodies prepared especially for the graduates. Graduates will then pass lanterns symbolizing the “light of learning” to those in their lives who provided encouragement and support during their education. A reception sponsored by the Alumnae Association will immediately follow.
