Urban Education Fellows Program
The Urban Education Fellows Program (UEFP) is designed to improve the quality of education in independent private, parochial or charter schools in the greater Milwaukee area.

The UEFP requires a two-year commitment to work in a school, learning on the job with a coach (now accepting applications for 2010 coaches), and successful completion of college course work.

As an Urban Education Fellow, you will:

  • Be hired as a teacher in an independent private, parochial or charter school while you are participating in the program
  • Take courses in a schedule that accommodates your teaching responsibilities (late afternoons, evenings, weekends, and summer school)
  • Apply the learning in your coursework to your practice with learners at your worksite
  • Receive AmeriCorps funding to partially cover your tuition
    Participate in team activities

Urban Education Fellows is co-sponsored by Alverno and Mount Mary College. Funding provided by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Burke Foundation (formerly the Trinity Foundation).

The program's mission is to assist participants as they become new teachers and to help them prepare their credentials for licensure. Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree, but it needn't be in education. This program is open to women and men.

This rigorous program consists of a series of accelerated courses and other professional development opportunities. The two-year program (seven semesters) will lead to teaching certification (grades 1 - 8) and a Master of Arts in Education from either Mount Mary College or Alverno College.

NEW! The Urban Fellows program now offers a high school track. Check out the coursework outline and schedule/tuition information.

To ensure your success, coaching (now accepting applications for 2010 coaches) and mentoring will be part of the program, along with sharing among program participants. Generous financial assistance makes the program affordable. Classes are scheduled in a convenient format that works around your schedule and responsibilities.

If you are committed to improving the quality of education for children in Milwaukee's independent private, parochial or charter schools, this program is for you!
