| The Urban Education Fellows Program (UEFP) is designed to improve the quality of education in independent private, parochial or charter schools in the greater Milwaukee area. Those who desire to teach in this setting in grades 1 - 8 will benefit from this program. The UEFP requires a two-year commitment to work in a school, learning on the job with a coach, and successful completion of college course work.
Urban Education Fellows Program is co-sponsored by Alverno and Mount Mary College. Funding provided by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation and the Trinity Fund Foundation.
The program's mission is to assist participants as they become new teachers and to help them prepare their credentials for licensure. Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree, but it needn't be in education. See Mount Mary's undergraduate programs.
Once accepted into the program, participants will be matched for a salaried teaching position at a Milwaukee independent private, parochial or charter school. Program classes begin in June and teaching positions begin in the fall.
This rigorous program consists of a series of accelerated courses and other professional development opportunities. The two-year program (seven semesters) will lead to teaching certification (grades 1 - 8) and a Master of Arts in Education degree from either Mount Mary College or Alverno College.
To ensure your success, coaching and mentoring will be part of the program, along with sharing among program participants. Generous financial assistance makes the program affordable. Classes are scheduled in a convenient format that works around your schedule and responsibilities.
