Theology Department
The quest to find meaning in the study of God and the relationship between God and the universe is the foundation for the field of theology. Mount Mary College provides rich soil for theological study as part of its commitment to integrity and social justice, which arise from moral values and Christian principles.

The theology major at Mount Mary is organized around the belief that a fully human life includes response in faith to God, and that the complementary faculties of faith and reason are the means by which one explores life's mystery and meaning. Theology students are introduced to various aspects of the Christian tradition, including its Jewish origins, in order to understand it more deeply and to critically reflect upon its ongoing significance for life. Other, non-Christian viewpoints are considered, too - most notably within the department's "World Religions" course.

The major is designed for those interested in various church ministries, in graduate school, or in personal enrichment. Although full-time professors within the Catholic tradition teach the majority of the college's theology courses, the contributions of students from diverse religious backgrounds enrich the conversation. A plurality of perspectives is welcomed in the classroom.
