Teacher Certification

Choosing to become a teacher is choosing to make a difference in our world. Mount Mary College places high value on preparing students for this noble profession and has been training teachers since 1929.

Mount Mary offers teaching certificates to individuals looking for a career change. Certification for grades Pre-K - 6, 6 - 12, 1 - 9 or Pre-K - 12 is awarded to students who:

  • Complete a major in one of the certification areas
  • Display competency in computer use and communication
  • Meet grade point requirements
  • Complete the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction human relations requirement
  • Meet all requirements specified by the Education Department
  • Pass the content test for the major as specified by the Department of Public Instruction
  • Meet the portfolio requirement as specified by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction

Although teaching certification students need to fulfill the same professional requirements for certification as the undergraduates, some of these requirements are fulfilled through graduate courses that can be applied toward Mount Mary's Master of Arts in Education Program.

Teacher Education Certificates are open to women as well as men.
