Bloechl Recreation Center

A dedication and cornerstone ceremony for the Bloechl Recreation Center was held on Thursday, October 19, 2006. Officiating at the ceremony was the Most Reverend Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of Milwaukee, who blessed the building's cornerstone and asked for blessing on all the people who will use the new facility.

Honored guests included the building's namesakes, Eileen Wirtz Bloechl, class of 1954, and F. Richard Bloechl, Mount Mary College Trustee, along with members of their extended family.

A few facts about Mount Mary athletics and the Bloechl Center:

  • The Bloechl Recreation Center includes a full-size gymnasium and two half courts, locker and training rooms, offices, and a fitness center.
  • The building measures 24,806 square feet.
  • Construction began in summer 2005.
  • The building is named for Eileen Wirtz Bloechl, MMC ‘54. Eileen and her husband,
  • The impetus to construct a new athletic center at Mount Mary gained momentum when the college achieved provisional Division III NCAA status in fall 2003. Current NCAA sports at Mount Mary include basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
