Through counseling, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, family intervention, and group work, social workers help people to solve personal and family problems. Social workers advocate for persons who face a life-threatening disease or a social problem like lack of housing, unemployment, substance addiction, serious illness or disability, or domestic abuse. They bring people together to create change in neighborhoods, villages, or change in our world. Social and economic justice is the primary goal of social workers.

Do you have a strong interest in helping others and a desire to make the world a better place? Are you sensitive to people and their problems? Can you be objective in listening to both sides of an issue? If you answered "yes" to these questions then a career in social work may be right for you.
In addition to these important qualities, social workers must be able to handle responsibility, work independently, value diversity, and maintain good working relationships with clients and co-workers. For those who choose a career path that is focused on helping others, the rewards are great. |
Students interested in the social work program are invited to an information session scheduled for Wednesday, May 21 beginning at 6 p.m. Please call the Admission Office, (800) 321-6265, to find out more about this event and to RSVP.
"As a graduate of Mount Mary College, I can promise you that if you put forth the effort, you will learn more than you ever dreamed possible. If you love to be challenged and allow yourself to leave your comfort zone, you will have a memorable learning experience both in the field and in the classroom."
- Elizabeth Boeck
