Certification/Licensure

All social workers must be certified or licensed. Graduates of Mount Mary are eligible to take the State of Wisconsin BSW level certification exam for entry level professional practice.

Just prior to receiving the baccalaureate degree in social work from a Council on Social Work Education accredited program such as Mount Mary's program, students should make application for certification.

In Wisconsin, students apply with the State of Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing. The baccalaureate (entry level) certification exam is typically offered on a monthly basis in the Milwaukee area. Persons qualify to sit for the exam by completing their social work degree at a college or university with a Council on Social Work Education accredited social work program. Accreditation by CSWE is very important for certification by Wisconsin and other states.
