Soccer Coach: Emily Patterson

Emily Patterson took the reigns as head soccer coach at Mount Mary College just weeks before the season began. After completing her first year of coaching with Assistant Joe Shokatz, the two turned a struggling team around and made great strides in improving the Mount Mary College soccer program.
Patterson was born and raised in Green Bay, WI with four brothers, which helped her to pursue her athletic talent at a young age as she began playing soccer at age 5. Her close-knit family provided her with everything she needed to become a well-rounded athlete.

After moving to Holland, Michigan, Patterson attended West Ottawa High School where she played varsity soccer and varsity tennis all four years. Patterson was also named captain in each sport. Coach Brent Wyckoff and Coach Karen Page, Patterson's high school soccer and tennis coaches, respectively, both had a tremendous impact on her life as they influenced Patterson to be the best athlete and person she could be.

Following high school, Patterson attended the University of Wisconsin—Madison where she earned a BS in history and political science. As a Badger, Patterson became the Varsity Soccer Team's goalkeeper for the 2003 season as a walk-on. Following her season with the soccer team, Patterson played with the university's club tennis team.

Patterson then moved on to Marquette University where she earned her Master's Degree in Educational Policy and Leadership, allow with a certificate in Education. Prior to coaching at Mount Mary, Patterson worked as a high school social studies teacher where she taught and coached at the high school level.
In her free time, Patterson can still be seen on the field playing soccer year-round with several competitive teams in the area, including the Women's Soccer Club (WSC) Majors United Semi-Pro team. She also enjoys long walks on the beach with her dog, Oden.

Assistant Soccer Coach: Joe Shokatz

A native to Milwaukee, Joe Shokatz attended Thomas Moore High School. Following high school Coach Shokatz attended Edgewood College where he played soccer for four years while earning his bachelor's degree in Broad Field Social Studies and Education. Recently, he earned his master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction through National Lewis University.

While finishing his degree at Edgewood, Coach Shokatz assisted in coaching both the men's and women's soccer teams. While assisting, the teams made 3 NCAA Tournament appearances.

Currently, Coach Shokatz teaches Government, A.P. American Government, and A.P. World History at Vincent High School in Milwaukee where he has taught for the last 10 years.

Coach Shokatz has 9 years of high school coaching experience coaching both boys and girls soccer. He spent 3 years coaching at Vincent and 5 years at Brown Deer. In 2005, Milwaukee Vincent captured the conference championship in girls' soccer. Coach Shokatz has also coached for the Milwaukee Simbas Club team at various age levels.

Coach Shokatz is marred to Vicky Shokatz and has one daughter, Lucy. Shokatz and his family enjoy spending time with together, traveling, and relaxing with friends.
