AmeriCorps VISTA
Dr. Schwalbach championed the launch of an AmeriCorps VISTA program. Sponsored by Mount Mary, and staffed with Mount Mary student volunteers, the program provides English language tutoring to Hispanic community members to advance employment and educational opportunities for the program's adult participants.

Caroline Scholars
Dr. Schwalbach developed Mount Mary's Caroline Scholars program which provides challenging academic work, leadership development and financial assistance to academically gifted young women. A full tuition scholarship for each year in the program, as well as room and board in the residence hall, relieves students of the need to work.

Program participants can then be fully engaged in service to the Milwaukee community. Dr. Schwalbach has provided mentoring to Caroline Scholars since the program's inception including teaching Leadership for Social Justice, a class designed to build student leadership skills and foster a strong commitment to social justice.
