Message from the President
Dear Friends,
Our year-long Centennial celebration began in the opening days of the fall semester with an all campus picnic that brought students and staff together for a rousing start to the centennial year. Naturally, it was easy to imagine the same level of excitement on a similar September day in 1929 when St. Mary's of Prairie du Chien became Mount Mary College in Milwaukee. Mount Mary has grown in so many ways since then, resulting in a transition to the name University in order to reflect the accomplishments of all those years.
The strength of our graduate programs is a natural extension of the academic excellence for which Mount Mary has always been known, extending our legacy in creative new ways. This is a very exciting time in our history and I'm proud to share the responsibility of setting the course for our next century of making a difference in the world by making a difference in the lives of our students. Making the official name change to Mount Mary University in 2013 is a most appropriate way to set the tone for all of the events associated with the Centennial.
As important and satisfying as it is to take pride in past accomplishments, it is just as important to look ahead to new goals and new ways of achieving them. I think you'll find in the months ahead that we have given a great deal of thought to this as well. We are currently involved in a branding process and a redesign of our website that will result in a fresh look for Mount Mary communications. The new look is a way of communicating to prospective students, alumnae and all external audiences the extraordinarily creative initiatives that will define Mount Mary 's next chapter.
As this year unfolds, please continue to visit us at www.mtmary.edu to stay closely connected to life on this campus and to learn more about the varied ways in which we will mark our Centennial. Please know that although the celebration started here, it will extend beyond this campus. Our graduates, our friends and the entire Milwaukee community share in the legacy of this institution and your participation will be a welcome addition to the events we are planning for the coming year. We look forward to seeing you and thanking you for your interest in helping us build on that legacy.
