Message from the President
I am always pleased to have another opportunity to spread the good news about Mount Mary College, and lately the news has been exceptional. After months of anticipation, we have received official notification early this spring that the Higher Learning Commission has approved Mount Mary's Doctorate in Art Therapy program, the first The Mount Mary program is unique in its emphasis on both workplace proficiencies and research, resulting in the creation of an entirely new academic designation, DrAT. I'm very proud of this milestone in Mount Mary's history and for the profession itself, knowing that once again our graduates will be making significant contributions in this vital field of human services. Knowing that all of our students at both the undergraduate and graduate level are being prepared to make contributions in their respective fields is a source of constant inspiration for me. My favorite topic, regardless of the speaking venue, is to tell the story of these amazing students, and not surprisingly I never run out of stories to tell. Each one of those stories speaks of personal fortitude and dedication, sometimes in the face of great challenges. And the backdrop to each of those stories is Mount Mary's mission driven promise to continue stressing academic excellence while making accessibility an institutional priority. We are currently serving the most diverse population in the history of the College and the largest in the state of Wisconsin, providing all of our students with an education that mirrors the society in which they live. It is gratifying for all of us in the Mount Mary community to know that in following this SSND legacy we are finding new ways to transform lives; new ways to exemplify our Catholic identity and new ways to make this a better world. While there have been many changes on campus during these last few months, including improved facilities and expanded programs, our source of greatest pride will always be our students. I'll share their stories with you in coming messages so that you will see the human side of Mount Mary's growth and success. With warmest regards, Eileen Schwalbach, Ph.D.
