Occupational therapy is a health profession that focuses on redesigning daily occupations to maximize independence in living. Its practitioners provide service to individuals and populations of all ages who have physical, developmental and psychosocial deficits. The occupational therapy curriculum provides professional preparation with an emphasis on the liberal arts. The program emphasizes the biological, behavioral, and social sciences. Occupational therapy students engage in experiential learning in laboratory settings both on campus and in clinical situations. |
Mount Mary's occupational therapy program is a combined bachelor of science and master of science program. Students complete a four-year undergraduate program on campus that focuses on individual treatment and then participate in a faculty arranged fieldwork experience for six months, putting textbook knowledge into practice. Concurrent with fieldwork students use the Internet for distance learning to complete one year of graduate study that focuses on the student's preferred practice area.
