Admission Information
Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Occupational Therapy

The BS/MS program track is for undergraduate students who have not previously earned a bachelor's degree. If you have earned a bachelor's degree or will be completing one at another institution, please see the information on the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy.

The Occupational Therapy program reviews completed applications twice per calendar year for admission to the program. Application read dates are January 15 and June 15 each year. Review the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy application procedure sheet for additional information.

It is important to apply early to the Bachelor of Science/Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. Applications are considered in two stages.

Stage I: Initial eligibility -
To be considered for initial eligibility, the applicant must:

Official college transcripts from all outside college institutions attended will be retrieved from the undergraduate admissions office to be used as part of the initial eligibility process. All these items are reviewed once per month by the Occupational Therapy Admission & Retention Committee to determine initial eligibility for admission to the program. Applicants will be notified by mail of their initial eligibility or ineligibility for the program.

Initial eligibility does not admit a person into the Occupational Therapy program - it only determines if the applicant meets the initial academic standards required for admission (see Occupational Therapy admission policy).

Stage II: Submission of Application Materials
If an applicant is found initially eligible, they will be notified to submit the remaining application materials as follows:

When the above application materials are received and ALL prerequisite coursework is completed, an application is considered complete and will be reviewed at the next application reading date, either January 15 or June 15.

Notice for undergraduate students: Undergraduate students seeking admission to the occupational therapy program must have a minimum of 100 credits earned and all liberal arts core completed before starting the two-year sequence of the program in fall. There are no exceptions to this rule. If an applicant does not meet this criteria at the time of reviewing the application, determination will be made whether the criteria can be realistically met before starting the program in fall or if the application should be deferred and considered for admission the following year.

Prerequisite coursework that must be completed include the following (or equivalent transfer courses):

  • SYM 102: College Composition II
  • BIO 103: Introductory Biology
  • BIO 211: Human Anatomy
  • BIO 212: Human Physiology
  • PSY 103: Introductory Psychology
  • PSY 214: Developmental Psychology
  • OCT 101: O.T. Orientation
  • OCT 201: Medical Terminology

Please note: All prerequisite coursework must be complete and a grade received on an official transcript by the time of the application read date. There are no exceptions to this rule. Please review the Occupational Therapy admission policy for details regarding our admission process and policies.

Applicants are notified by mail approximately two weeks after the application reading date regarding an admission decision.

If you have any questions about the application process, please contact the Occupational Therapy department at (414) 256-1246.
