Counseling Program Expands to include Clinical Mental Health
January 30, 2012 -- Mount Mary College expanded its Master in Science in Counseling program this academic year to include a clinical mental health counseling concentration. This 60-credit program is designed to meet the growing need for mental health counselors specializing in trauma and substance abuse issues. It provides students with increased professional training and competency as well as portability and employability.

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Concentration is an approved substance abuse counseling pre-certification program by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services, formerly known as the Department of Regulation and Licensing (DRL), in addition to being an approved licensed counselor pre-certification program. The concentration also meets counselor licensing requirements for many states that require applicants to have completed a 60-credit masters program in counseling.

Mount Mary College's Master of Science in Counseling program is a participant in the National Board for Certified Counselors' national certification program - Graduate Student Administration - National Counselor Certification Examination (GSA-NCC Exam). The NCC credential is the only master's level, professional counselor certification that students can apply for while enrolled in college.

Mount Mary began offering a master in science in counseling in 2004 and offers two additional concentrations in community counseling and school counseling. The counseling programs are open to both women and men. Download the release.
