Travel, family, and food over winter break
Our students know how to make the most of time between semesters
The students are back, and Mount Mary's campus is alive again. Amid the flurry of events this week - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service, author visits, ice cream socials, paper crane making, and classes beginning, Mount Mary students paused to share highlights and photos of their winter breaks. Thank you to Kellie Catron (Fashion Merchandising), Jill Killick (Education), Payton Hintz (Graphic Design), and Rachel Barker (Occupational Therapy) for sharing their fun-filled adventures.
What's new? Tell us about your winter break:
Jill: Over winter break, I had the amazing opportunity to spend over two weeks studying abroad in Rome, taking a Theology course, and spending a weekend in Assisi. One day, I will definitely go back to Rome and visit other places in Italy. Our Theology group met with James Cardinal Harvey while we were in Rome at the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls.
Kellie: My winter break has been amazing. I got to see so many friends I haven't seen in months as well as family who I only get to see during the holiday time.
Payton: I had the privilege of spending winter break in the beautiful city of Rome, Italy as part of a study abroad program.
Caption your picture:
Kellie: I was at a friend's house drinking hot chocolate and looking down at all the pretty new snow on the ground while the sun was setting.
Jill: You have no idea how hard it was to choose a photo that was the best moment of my winter break because there were so many. Finally I did decide on one after lots of contemplation and going through 1,200+ pictures on my phone.
Payton: Unfortunately, I had to leave my gladiator gear at home, but that wasn’t going to stop me from exploring the Colosseum!
Rachel: Two of my favorite things: snowy mornings and vinyl records.
Now that you're starting the news semester, what's the fondest memory with your family? What's the one holiday dish you couldn't resist?
Kellie: My favorite dish during winter is definitely my mom's cinnamon-pecan french toast casserole. We always have some sort of a sweet breakfast food, and that is my favorite.
Jill: Pasta while in Italy. Carbonara: it's a Roman pasta dish with eggs, cheese, bacon, and black pepper.
Payton: Grandma's homemade pickles are always my guilty pleasure.
Rachel: I am obsessed with green bean casserole.
What are you looking forward to in the new semester?
Kellie: This semester I'm looking forward to all my new classes and meeting a whole new set of students. I had a great first semester, and I'm sure this semester will be even better! My 2016 semester resolution is to document memories better. I was looking through my phone the other day for pictures of all the fun things that happened the last few months, and I have barely any at all! I want to be able to look back on everything that happened in college, so hopefully I'll do a better job of taking pictures this semester.
Jill: I’m looking forward to classes starting, doing another semester of fieldwork at a local elementary school, and being a study abroad ambassador.
Payton: I am looking forward to finally taking graphic design classes. I recently changed my major, and now I get to dive into the world of design! This semester I will expand my creative side, and I will keep calm and positive during any and all chaos that is sure to ensue.
Rachel: I'm really looking forward to my anatomy class because I love learning about the human body and how amazing it is. Also - Dean's list!
