Fall Transforum Brings First Female Three-Star Army General to Address Women’s Leadership

Former Lieutenant General Claudia Kennedy to give keynote address

Claudia KennedyMILWAUKEE (August 26, 2014) – Claudia Kennedy, the first woman to achieve the rank of three-star general in the U.S. Army, is the keynote speaker at Mount Mary University’s Fall Transforum on Friday, Sept. 12, 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr. The event is hosted by the university’s Women’s Leadership Institute, which aims to develop the full potential of women as creative, transformative leaders within the global community. Kennedy’s talk will chronicle her career and the skills she learned to overcome obstacles and succeed.

When Kennedy retired from service in 2000 as a Lieutenant General, she was the highest-ranking woman ever in the Army and oversaw policy and resources affecting 45,000 soldiers worldwide. She’ll share her experiences over the course of 32 years in a male-dominated profession. During that time, she saw first-hand societal changes in the military and civilian life that elevated the role and influence of women. In 2001, Kennedy published Generally Speaking, a memoir of her ground-breaking military career.

Since retiring, Kennedy has addressed the importance of educating women to not only achieve professional success, but to improve national security, stabilize areas of conflict and advance global change.
