Master of Arts in English Admission Information

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the Mount Mary University Master of Arts in English graduate program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • have a bachelor’s degree
  • have a minimum undergraduate GPA for 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • submit all required application materials (see details below)

Application Deadlines

  •  August 1, for fall semester entry
  • December 1, for spring semester entry
  • May 1, for summer semester entry

How to Apply

  1. Complete and submit the online Graduate Student Application.

  2. Submit the nonrefundable application fee ($45 for domestic students; $100 for international students). You can submit the payment online by credit card or e-check through CashNet on the MyMountMary portal. Note: The application fee is waived for Mount Mary alumnae. If you’re an alumna, contact your graduate admission counselor to obtain the waiver code prior to submitting your application.

  3. Submit your official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended. You will need to contact each institution (typically the registrar’s office) to have your transcript sent, with an embossed seal, directly to: Mount Mary University, Graduate Admission Office, 2900 N. Menomonee River Parkway, Milwaukee, WI 53222-4597. If you are in the process of completing a bachelor’s degree, send your current transcript when you apply, and then send your official transcript once the degree is completed. If you previously attended Mount Mary, you do not need to request your Mount Mary transcripts, but you should provide transcripts from other schools, if applicable.   4. Submit three letters of recommendation. The recommendations should be from teachers/professors familiar with your work, employers familiar with your professionalism or writing or from other writers who know your work. Use our Letter of Recommendation for Graduate Study Form (PDF).

  5. Write and submit a career goals statement. The statement should describe your interests in writing and how you came to those interests, what your goals and ambitions in the field of writing are, and how the program to which you’re applying will help you achieve those goals. The statement should be four to five pages. Please take some time planning and writing the statement; the quality of your writing and thought will be assessed. Please include your name on the statement and submit your statement in an MS Word document.

  6. Submit a writing sample. Consult the Graduate Bulletin (PDF) or contact your graduate admission counselor for details on the writing sample requirement.

  7. Complete an interview with the program director. Once you submit all application materials, contact the Master of Arts in English program director to schedule an interview.

  8. Submit your resume (optional).
