Student Health Insurance

Here is some important information regarding Mount Mary's policy of offering student health insurance to all students. At Mount Mary, we believe that it is important for each student to evaluate her or his own situation with regard to what type of coverage, if any, is necessary for personal and family insurance.

Mount Mary, through our association with and membership in the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (WAICU), is able to offer one option for student health insurance. For 2011-2012, we have partnered with Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporation (WPS), a leading agent in student health insurance.    Undergraduate, graduate, and part-time students taking at least six credit hours are eligible to enroll in the plan.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
On August 1, 2011, the Mount Mary College student health insurance switched
from United Healthcare to Wisconsin Physicians Service Insurance Corporations (WPS).
Continuing students interested in receiving the WPS application packet, should contact
Associate Dean of Student Affairs, Martha Nelson, nelsonm@mtmary.edu.

Other Health Insurance Options

Students having health insurance is tied to academic success. Mount Mary College encourage all students to have health insurance while attending classes and to evaluate all the insurance options. You may wish to consider the school sponsored insurance plan with WPS or you may explore other options such as -

  • If you are still a dependent, you may wish to check with your parents to see if you can join or remain on their insurance plan.
  • If you are employed, you may wish to check with your employer about the insurance they offer.
  • Your spouse or significant other may also provide some insurance options for you.
  • Depending on your family income levels, you may wish to consider an assistance program, such as Badger Care. Go online to see if you are eligible - access.wi.gov.
