INTERLIBRARY LOAN POLICIES

Warning Concerning Copyright Restriction

The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified by law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproductions. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "Fair Use" that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.

The Interlibrary Loan Office (ILL) obtains research material NOT owned by Mount Mary College Library or any library in the SWITCH CONSORTIUM.

Haggerty Library reserves the right to return requests due to excessive cost per transaction or excessive cumulative cost per patron, or due to restrictions placed on the item by the supplying Library.

ILL cannot serve as a replacement for purchasing course textbooks; consequently, requests for textbooks will not be processed.

ITEMS MAY BE REQUESTED HERE. Forms are also available at the Circulation Desk and the Reference Desk of Haggerty Library. Please check the Mount Mary College Library catalog prior to placing your ILL request. Requests for items available on TopCat (http://topcat.switchinc.org/) will NOT be processed and will be returned to the patron.

Current faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students are eligible. Graduate and undergraduate students are charged fifteen ($0.15) cents per page for articles and one ($1.00) dollar per book. Alumnae will be charged the actual cost of borrowing the item.

Books and journal articles are the most frequently requested items. Dissertations may be difficult to obtain; AV items cannot be borrowed.

Allow ample time for delivery. Most requests will be filled within two (2) weeks.

The number of items processed per day per patron may be limited; otherwise, no restriction is placed on the number of ILL requests a patron may submit per semester.

Items for faculty and staff will be delivered to their Mount Mary College mailboxes. Notification for students will be by phone or email; items will be available at the Circulation Desk.

The loan period of returnable items is set by the lending library. The average loan period is three (3) weeks. Copies of journal articles are yours to keep.

Renewals are made at the discretion of the lending library. If a renewal is needed, contact the ILL office at edoc@mtmary.edu or at 414 258-4810, ext. 338. You may keep the material without penalty until we notify you of the response of the lending library.

Please return ILL items to the Circulation Desk or to a book drop at Mount Mary College Library.

All items are subject to the policies of the lending library.
Fines and fees will be passed on to the patron.
Replacement costs for lost books may be considerable.

For questions, please contact the ILL office at edoc@mtmary.edu
