Friends of Fashion

 

The Friends of Fashion group brings community energy and expertise to the Fashion Department and the Historic Costume Collection. Members participate in social and educational opportunities.

Friends of Fashion members receive invitations to exhibition openings, special events, and the Student Fashion Show. Through the Friends of Fashion newsletter, members learn of recent developments within the Historic Costume Collection and current fashion forecasts.

Donations received by Friends of Fashion will help:

  • preserve important aesthetic and historical artifacts
  • support exhibitions
  • purchase archival supplies
  • improve the environmental controls of the gallery and collection spaces

Become a Member of Friends of Fashion: Annual membership is available at the following levels -

Trend Setter - $25.00
Private Label - $50.00
Pret-a-Porter - $100.00
Haute Couture - $500.00

Opportunities for corporate giving are also available. Contributions are tax deductible to the limits of the law. Please contact the Development Office, (414) 256-1209, to become a member or to make a donation.

Ten Chimneys Tour and Lecture, May 3 at 11 a.m. - Lecture by Historic Costume Collection Curator, Liz Gaston, on Lynn Fontanne, Best Dressed Actress of Broadway, at Mount Mary College precedes a tour of Fontanne's estate, Ten Chimneys in Genesee Depot. On view in the historic rooms and visitor center are the gowns of Lynn Fontanne from Mount Mary's collection.

Ballet Costumes and Performances, May 18 at 10:30 a.m. - Lecture at Mount Mary College by Mary Piering of the Milwaukee Ballet Costume Shop precedes a performance of the ballet La Bayadere. Mary will demonstrate techniques of creating costumes for ballet. Liz Gaston, Historic Costume Collection Curator, will lecture on the current exhibit and the relationship between fashion and theater design.

These lecture events are sponsored by Center for Educational and Professional Advancement and highlight not only the current collection exhibition, All the World's a Stage, but also Milwaukee's exciting cultural events. Contact CEPA, (414) 256-1252, for tickets. Cost is $55 includes lecture and tour. Transportation and food are on your own.  

Wearable Wares, May 9, 12 to 8 p.m. - Before or after you attend the Student Designer Fashion Show: Urban Evolution, be sure to stop by Wearable Wares. This Friends of Fashion fundraiser will be exhibiting exclusive, hand-selected wearable art including scarves, hats, jewelry, and wraps.
