Teaching Interests: Nearly all periods of literature, literary theory, autobiography and memoir, composition

Scholarship:

  • Authored five books (Women’s Autobiography, Theory, Criticism – 2001, three books for the College in Community program, and Special Needs Adoption Network: A Series on Adoption and Foster Care Issues (2001 – one of four authors).
  • Edited, wrote introduction, and chapter for two books: Issues in Travel Writing: Empire, Spectacle, and Displacement (2002) and Gender, Genre, and Identity in Women’s Travel Writing (2004)
  • Published 13 books as General Editor of book series: Travel Writing across the Disciplines (publication dates ranging from 2002 to 2009).
  • Published first book as General Editor of new book series: Studies in Life Writing: Biography, Autobiography, Memoir (2010).
  • Various peer-reviewed articles in scholarly journals

Favorite book: Too many to list! My favorite authors include Samuel Beckett, Flannery O’Connor, Emily Dickinson, Shakespeare, and Vladimir Nabokov.

At Mount Mary: I’ve been at Mount Mary College since 1992.

Favorite Spot at Mount Mary: Standing on the front lawn and looking up at the bell tower on Notre Dame Hall. My not-so-secret wish is to ring the bell.
