English Program

The study of English offers a central path toward a rich, broad-based, education steeped in the humanities and the liberal arts. The English Program at Mount Mary College provides a full and varied curriculum, which prepares students for success in a number of fields, such as

English students also develop a solid background for graduate studies in law, medicine, business, library science, and many other areas.

Student receive a well-rounded education; coursework focusing on literature, theory, linguistics, and writing allows them to explore many genres and to develop analytical, creative, technical, journalistic, and persuasive writing skills. Students' interests and talents are nurtured as they develop imaginative thinking, clear writing and communication skills, and strong backgrounds in reading and discussion.

New in Spring 2007: Master of Arts in English (Writing Concentration) - This innovative graduate program provides concentrations in creative writing and professional writing as well as the opportunity to focus on both areas. The program is designed to lead to employment in areas of professional writing, creative writing, and the many professions that require advanced writing skills.
