Reading License 316

Mount Mary College offers the 316 Reading Teacher license program. Licensed teachers with a minimum of two year’s teaching experience who have completed an approved reading program may be licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

The Mount Mary College licensure program involves 18 graduate credits, structured as six, three credit courses -

  • EDU 502 Teaching Reading and Language Arts in the Middle/Secondary School
  • EDU 510 Developmental Reading for the Middle Childhood (Gr. 3-5)
  • EDU 511 Developmental Reading for Early Childhood (Pre-K-Grade 2)
  • EDU 522 Celebrate Children’s Literature
  • EDU 523 Reading and Learning Disabilities
  • EDU 559 Assessment and Instruction of Literacy Difficulties

Based on a teacher’s previous licensure and coursework, up to six undergraduate credits may be substituted for two of these courses. Teachers who wish to be licensed through Mount Mary College need to apply and be admitted to the Reading Licensure program. These graduate level reading courses may be applied to the elective component in the Mount Mary Graduate Program in Education. Teachers may choose to enroll in these courses as part of their license renewal plan.
