dieteticsDietetics Work Experience Requirement

The Dietetics Department has a dietetic related work experience requirement for those students seeking entry into the Coordinated Program in Dietetics. The purpose is to acquaint students with food and nutrition services which are the basis of the profession of dietetics.

This experience needs to be a minimum of 160 hours with 40 of those hours spent in a diet office setting. The total hours should be completed prior to the beginning of the junior year in the Coordinated Program. Lack of completion may affect acceptance into the program or may result in admission on a probationary basis.

A description of this experience on facility letterhead will be required along with the signature of the appropriate supervisor by August 15, prior to the beginning the junior sequence of the Coordinated Program. The experience can be volunteer or paid, however it cannot include waitress or hostess work at a restaurant.

  • Food Production (hospitals, extended care, school food service)
  • Tray Line Assembly/Delivery
  • Cafeteria Service Line/Production
  • Menu Planning and Production Sheet/Spread Sheet Development
  • Catering Production and Service
  • Fast Food (must include production experience)

Diet Office:

  • Menu Tallies
  • Diet Changes
  • Modified Diet Calculations
  • Kardex Systems
  • Computer Systems
