Program Mission, Goals and Outcomes

Mount Mary College has been committed to quality education in dietetics for nearly seventy years. The college has remained in the forefront as dietetic education has changed over the years. It is a recognized leader in dietetic education in southeastern Wisconsin.

Mission: The Mount Mary College dietetic program has as its mission, the education of women to prepare them as entry level generalist practitioners. The dietetic curriculum is designed to provide a strong liberal arts base along with the didactic and supervised practice necessary for the entry level dietitian.

Program Goals and Outcomes:watermelon

Those completing the Coordinated Program will develop the capacity to think critically, to construct a philosophy of life, actualize it and to organize her/his thoughts to bear on issues related to the dietetic profession.

  • Completion of the dietetic major curriculum including liberal arts core and the Search for Meaning course meeting the GPA requirements of 2.5 overall and a 2.65 in courses required for the major.
  • Completion of a portfolio as a part of DTS 466, DTS 467 and DTS 468, Practicum in Clinical Nutrition, Foodservice Management, and Community/Consumer Nutrition respectively.

Those completing the Coordinated Program will acquire the necessary competencies for entry level generalist practice.

  • Graduates achieve over a 5-year period a pass rate of at least 80% on the registration examination.
  • Student dietitians in the practicums must receive a minimum of a good performance rating in each practicum
  • Ninety percent of students that receive full admission into the Coordinated Program will complete the program.
  • Within one year of program completion, 90% of the graduates will have obtained employment in the area of dietetics.
  • Employers rank graduates at a minimum of satisfactory on all areas polled.

Those completing the Coordinated Program will be stimulated to continue their professional growth after program completion.

  • At least 25% of program graduates will continue with graduate education or obtain certification in specialized areas of dietetics.
  • At least 80% of program graduates will be members of ADA and/or other professional organizations.
