Dietetics Fieldwork/Practicum

dieteticsSeveral organizations and companies host Mount Mary students for supervised fieldwork. Students receive more than 1,000 hours of supervised fieldwork, or practicum as it is referred to at Mount Mary. This practicum is necessary to become eligible for the registration exam upon graduation.

All dietetics students complete three practicums during the second semester of their senior year. The practicums include:

  • six to eight weeks in clinical nutrition
  • four weeks in community/consumer nutrition
  • six to eight weeks in food service management settings

Practicum opportunities are offered at the following locations:

  • Hospitals
  • Physician's offices
  • School districts
  • Nursing homes
  • Businesses
  • Public health departments
  • Day care facilities
  • Food service companies
  • Social service organizations
