The Dietetic Internship strengthens the academic background of interns and provides quality experiences in a generalist program with a concentration in disease prevention and health promotion. The combination of graduate course work with the experiential component enhances application of concepts and presents a model for lifelong learning to promote professional excellence.
Goals and Outcome Measures
- To comprehensively train competent, confident, entry-level practitioners
who incorporate disease prevention and health promotion in professional
practice.
Outcome Measures over a 5 year period:
- 90% of interns enrolled in the DI program will complete all program requirements within 150% of the time planned for program completion.
- 70% or more of program graduates who sought employment in dietetics are employed within 3 months of program completion.
- The pass rate for program graduates taking the registration exam for the first time will be at least 85%.
- Graduates will collectively meet or exceed the national mean test scores on the registration exam.
- 80% of employers will give program graduates a mean competence rating above “average” on surveys.
- 80% of interns will give themselves a mean competence rating above “average” on surveys.
- 80% of interns will indicate they have incorporated principles of disease prevention and health promotion into their practice.
- To stimulate interns to continue their professional growth through
graduate education, certification in specialized areas of dietetics
and/or professional activities.
Outcome Measures over a 5 year period:
- At least 50% of interns will continue with their graduate education or seek certification in specialized areas of practice.
- At least 75% of graduates will be members of the ADA &/or other professional organizations.
- To meet interns’ individual learning needs and interests through internship
placement sites and graduate course work that promote excellence in practice.
Outcome Measures over a 5 year period:
- 80% of students will indicate a “satisfactory” or better score regarding overall program satisfaction.
- 80% of students will indicate a “satisfactory” or better score regarding placement sites meeting their learning needs and interests.
- 75% of students will indicate a “satisfactory” or better score regarding graduate courses meeting their learning needs and interests.
