Music at Mount Mary College

Mount Mary provides a holistic musical environment in which students may deepen their understanding, enjoyment, and performance of music in a variety of ways.

Music courses are open to all Mount Mary College students. Courses encompass historical surveys which highlight classical music, the American musical and popular music, women in music, and music in world cultures. Students may also participate in campus music ensembles, or take group or private lessons in a variety of instruments. Faculty, staff and community members may register for all courses and take private lessons on campus, as well. Professional teachers are welcome to expand their teacher training by participating in the Orff Schulwerk program.

The music department enhances the quality of campus life, enlivening campus events with performances by its ensembles and guest artists, and encouraging all students to participate fully in the musical life of our campus. Our primary goal is to encourage all of our students to embrace the invaluable cultural and personal benefits that result from active participation in musical activities.
