“I like knowing that I have so many people I can go to in the future for advice or direction. I feel like I already have a network in my field of study.”

Interior Design - Skills for Changing the World

The Interior Design Department team of students, faculty, and staff welcome you to our web site. If we do not successfully answer your questions or if you need additional information, contact the Interior Design Department Chairperson, Leona Knobloch-Nelson, (414) 256-1213.

Interior Design as a Profession (read more)

Interior design is a very important profession in our world today.  Interior designers create aesthetic and functional designs for living environments as well as a multitude of commercial spaces such as hospitals, hotels, offices, corporate jets, casinos, and spas to name a few.  Through education, examination, and experience an interior designer works with

  • life safety and building codes
  • sustainable and environmental issues
  • basic construction and mechanical systems.

The interior designer uses skills in space planning, problem solving, contract document preparation, and material selection while working with professionals such as architects, engineers, and electricians.

An interior designer has a tremendous opportunity to effect individuals where they work and live whether it is a LEED Platinum building in New York or a condo in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.
