Cross Country Coach: Eugene Miranda

photo: Coach Eugene MirandaEugene Miranda is in his fourth season as coach of the Mt. Mary cross-country team. He competed in track and cross-country in high school and in the army. As a physical training instructor in the army he coached his brigade cross-country and track teams. After leaving the army he coached high school cross-country and track for two years before enrolling in college.

Eugene’s undergraduate major was in physical education and his two graduate areas of study were in exercise physiology and physical therapy. After several years of working in clinical settings and in health and fitness, he is now a full-time instructor of anatomy and physiology at Waukesha County Technical College, in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Eugene lives with his wife and two children in Brookfield, Wisconsin. In his spare time he participates in activities like yoga, cycling, coaching marathoners, and playing the bag pipe.

Assistant Cross Country Coach: Jesalyn Maher

Jesalyn Maher, a native of Mequon, WI, began her first season as assistant cross-country coach this year (2011), under head coach, Eugene Miranda.

Maher, a runner herself, competed in track and field all four years in high school. Following her high school career, she moved on to compete as a Pointer for UW-Stevens Point from 2000-2003 where she competed in the 400 meter run and the 1600 meter relay.

Maher is a graduate of Carroll University where she earned her degree in Recreation Management and Sports Coaching. Currently, Maher is attending the United States Sports Academy for a master's degree in Sports Management and Sports Coaching.

In her free time, Maher regularly competes competitively in 5k races. She is also a certified kickboxing, boot camp, and circuit training instructor for a local fitness club. On top of this, Maher is an ACE certified Personal Trainer and works independently, as well as for local fitness clubs. Maher's hobbies include running, snowboarding, and recreation sports.
