Employment Outlook

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bachelor’s degree in chemistry is the minimum educational requirement to work in the field. However, many chemical research jobs require a master’s degree or more often a Ph.D. Job growth will be concentrated in pharmaceutical and medicine manufacturing companies and in professional, scientific, and technical services firms.

Bachelor degree graduates will find opportunities at smaller research organizations, and some may become middle or secondary school science or chemistry teachers.
