Employment Outlook

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics, a bachelor’s degree is adequate for jobs as a research technician in the biological or related sciences. A Ph.D. degree is usually required for independent research positions. biology

The employment outlook for biological scientists is projected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations in the next seven years. Biotechnological research and development continue to drive job growth in this area.

The number of science-related jobs in sales, marketing and research management for which non-Ph.D.s usually qualify is expected to exceed the number of independent research positions available. Non-Ph.Ds also may fill positions as science or engineering technicians or as medical health technicians. Some may become high school biology teachers.
