Degree Requirements for Master of Science in Art Therapy

Art Therapy with Concentration in Counseling - 60 credits

  • Practicum experience - 800 to 1000 hours
  • Research project
    • thesis

  • Art Therapy coursework - 42 credits
  • Art Therapy electives - 6 credits
  • Counseling courses - 12 credits

The graduate art therapy program is designed for students who intend to practice art therapy and eventually become registered (ATR) and board certified (ATR-BC) with the Art Therapy Credentials Board (ATCB). Graduates are prepared to become eligible for state licensure. Individual states vary regarding particular required content areas and Mount Mary's graduate program may be individually designed to meet a student's needs.

Prerequisite Coursework

Art Therapy is a profession founded on art and psychology. Applicants must have sufficient undergraduate preparation in these areas. Prerequisite coursework includes
