Professional Experience: Lynn Kapitan internationally known as the Past President of AATA and current Editor of Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, the leading publication in the field. A professional art therapist and educator with over 25 years of experience, she specializes in community art therapy and leadership development. She practices art therapy internationally in Central and South America, and over the years has worked with children with exceptional needs and at-risk adolescents, medical and rehabilitative aftercare, and conflict resolution.

Courses taught: Dr. Kapitan is responsible for Graduate Art Therapy Research coursework and thesis advising, and also teaches Techniques of the Helping Relationship, Assessment & Clinical Treatment, and Multicultural Issues in Art Therapy. She co-leads and supervises the Cross Cultural Art Therapy internship for students interested in Mount Mary's international program opportunities in Arequipa, Peru.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal Statement: "As founder and former director of the Master of Science in Art Therapy at Mount Mary College, I have a long history with graduate art therapy students and have dedicated myself to creating a supportive professional community to make art therapy a viable career. I believe in the transformational power of art therapy, and approach therapy, teaching and learning as a profoundly creative collaboration. I never tire of being a witness to the amazing discoveries, depths of joy or compassionate sorrow, and the beauty of the people I encounter in art therapy."
