Art Special Emphasis

The graduate program in education is open to women and men who hold a bachelor's degree and a teaching license. It offers many options for teachers who can design their own program or choose one of the special emphases.

Art Emphasis: In addition to the 12 credits of core education courses, students in the Special Emphasis in Art take 12 credits of studio art classes. Students may choose whichever art courses they wish. Here are some courses offered recently:

  • Functional Pottery
  • Book Illustration
  • Calligraphy
  • Watercolor
  • Surface Design
  • Advanced Ceramics
  • Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Art Metal

Teachers in the special emphasis also do an action research project in their art classroom for the final six credits of the program. They choose to implement an instructional or assessment strategy, such as portfolio assessment; develop a curriculum project, such as a unit on art history; or do a community outreach project, like the Edible Art Fair.
