Adaptive Art Education

Teaching Major: Adaptive Art Education is a teaching major that combines art therapy and art education. Mount Mary College offers several program formats for students wishing to pursue adaptive art education. See degree requirements and curriculum.

Certification: After completion of the program, students are certified to teach art in grades Pre-K through 12, and are certified in adaptive arts. The practicum in art therapy is done in conjunction with student teaching with supervision by an art therapist/art educator.

  • ATH 210 Introduction to Art Therapy
  • ATH 320 Basic Therapeutic Skills
  • ATH 332 Art Media Dimension and Adaptation
  • PSY 103 Basic Psychology
  • PSY 214 Developmental Psychology
  • PSY 325 Abnormal Psychology

Graduate Program Emphasis: Mount Mary's master of arts in education offers a special emphasis in adaptive education. The requirements include

  • 12 credits of adaptive education course work for subject-area specialization
  • Papers and projects may be related to adaptive education
  • Action research project relative to adaptive education will be done in your own classroom
